Still Working on the Montessori AlbumsAugust 20, 2008 by Miss Norma | No comments

Today I spent about four hours working on three albums. They were the Record Keeping Album, the Teacher Resource Album (which included Philosophy, Child Development, Children With Special Needs, Classroom management, Peace Education, and Parent Teacher Communication) and the Cultural Album (which include Science, Geography, Art and Movement/Music). Once again like I mentioned on my previous post it is frustrating to work on them because I get to put these albums together however I want. So I had to decide what I was putting on each album since I did not want to have a binder for each of these subjects.

So what did I accomplish in those four hours? Well I got each binder in order and placed tabs with labels for each subject and sections under each subject. I also got a refresher on all the helpful materials I have to fall back on when I need assistance with any of the subjects mentioned above. I also accomplished writing up a Table of Contents for each album, even though I still need to type it up.

While putting these albums together I also went back to look at the notes I took in class last summer. This was very helpful to me because as I was looking through some of the papers I did not quite understand certain things so my notes clarified them for me. So I put my notes at the end of each subject and hope to have time to type them up. I figure that it would be more helpful to have them in the binders instead of in some notebook tugged away somewhere where I would never look at it.

Now what do I need to do to finish off the albums. I plan on putting sheet protectors on each album. So I need to go out and buy some more sheet protectors. I would also like to type up the Table of Contents and my notes. For now, that is all I can think of that needs to be done to feel like my albums are complete.

Once again I will let you know when they are finished to my liking.

Working on the Cultural and Philsophy Montessori AlbumsAugust 8, 2008 by Miss Norma | No comments

Last night I started work on two more of my albums. I’ve been dreading it for a while since these albums did not have to be finished for my certification. So I had to actually encourage myself to take them out last night.

I first looked through my Science, Geography Art and Movement Album. I try to put tabs in for each section. Also, I put them in order that made sense for me. It was a little difficult because each category had different sections in them so I did not know how to tab it so that I can tell when the new category stared. So I ended up putting tabs for each section and category but did not label them yet.

Then I worked on the Philosophy, Child Development, Record Keeping and Parent Communication Album. That was even more confusing for me because I did not know what order to put them in or if I should have put them in different binders. Eventually I ended up leaving it in the order it was and putting in tabs for each category.

I still need to work on both of these albums. I want to put in sheet protectors and tabs that are different for the categories and sections, so that when I look through the albums it is clear where each category is.

I set them on my dining table so I can see them daily and continue to work on them.

I will let you know once I finish them and how it turns out.

Arts and Crafts in a Montessori ClassroomJune 26, 2008 by Miss Norma | No comments

Arts and Crafts is pretty much incorporated into the Cultural and Practical Life areas of the classroom. Here, the children learn to cut, paste and be creative. The children also learn about different artists and their art. The children also get to work on group or individual projects related to the unit study they are working on in the Cultural area. For example, if they are learning about insects, they might decorate or draw butterflies or any other insect. This area is were the children express themselves through art.

Arts and Crafts in a Montessori Classroom is a way for children to express there thoughts and creativity.
Children get to express their feelings, the way they see things visually and their views of it. They Write stories and feel productive while drawing pictures.

In a Montessori classroom the children have the opportunity to do free art. There are always crayons, markers, paint and an isle available for the children to be creative. There are also craft projects that may relate to what the children are learning in Cultural Studies. The children love to do Arts and Crafts. They are in total control of what they are doing.

I love to talk to the children about what they draw and paint. They have so much to say about their art. Some children even asked the teachers to write words under their creations. It is amazing what this area does for children.

  • i love montessori

    • This blog is about me as a Montessori mom, believer and follower. I want to inspire others to believe in what I experience everyday in my classroom, children learning in a peaceful and happy environment. Children learning at their own pace, helping and guiding each other.

I started this blog because I want to share my views and experiences as a mom and a devoted Montessori teacher. I recently finished the primary certification with American Montessori Society (AMS). I really enjoyed this experience even though at times it seems as if I was never going to finish. It was lot of work and up and downs for me. I am extremely happy I did it
